I herewith forward a letter from Mr.
Mackay, Land Bailiff, enquiring, with reference to hi house; -
2.
(1). Whether it is the intention of Government to continue indefinitely using the quarry at Teat Taz Mui.
(11). If so, will Government undertake to duly
compensate him for all prejudice or loss resulting from the use of the quarry. Mr. Mackay bought Inland Lot 1925 at public auction on the 12. 8. 12. He erected a house on it, which was certified under the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance on the 27th. May, 1913. In
a minute by Mr. Mackay, dated 6. 7. 14, he stated that the entire property had cost him roughly $12,000. He added that he then valued it at $15,000.
3.
A quarry existed in the position in ques- -tion for many years prior to August 1912, when Mr. Mackay bought Inland Lot 1925. In April, 1914, how- -ever, this quarry was taken over by Government and has been worked since then by this Department. Since it was taken over by Government, operatione have been conducted in a totally different manner from what they were prior to that date. Stone-crushers and elevators have been installed and also plant for the preparation of tar macadam and the amount of drilling and blasting has greatly increased. The operation of the stone crushers causes a great deal of dust and noise, which it is not possible to abate.
